Meet Report | 2022 Provincial Trials

March 14, 2022

Here’s the Meet Report for the 2022 Swim Alberta Provincial Trials from March 11th-13th, 2022:

Team Goals

The Team Goals for this meet were to nail each breakout, and approach the wall aggressively. With this being a short course meet in the middle of the long course season, it was a great opportunity to revisit the importance of walls. If swimmers can maintain their speed into the wall and off the wall, those race features can make up huge amounts of time and allow them to use their efforts on close-quarters racing in the middle of the pool. This focus paid off with lots of awesomely executed turns over the weekend. Great job to all of our OSC swimmers!

Swimmer Stats

The club brought 13 swimmers to this event. We had 47 personal bests, 8 podium places, and 3 new Champs qualifiers. The swimmer with the largest improvement was Layne Birbeck, with an improvement of 54.28 seconds in the 200 Breast, going from 3:57.18 to 3:02.90 and winning a bronze medal. Congratulations Layne!
