New Head Age Group Coach: Shane Downey
Head Coach Lesley Serediak is pleased to announce Shane Downey as our new Head Age Group Coach!
Shane has been coaching full time professionally over the last 9 years with a total of 13 years of coaching experience. He has worked with swimmers ranging from a grassroots level to being qualified for Canadian Swimming Trials. As a swimmer, Shane reached the Senior National level and competed at Junior Pan Pac’s in 2010. After retiring from the sport, he discovered his love for coaching when he started working with the Calgary Swordfish Summer Swim Club. Shane then made the decision to pursue coaching professionally and moved to Langley, BC to become the Langley Olympians Swim Club Assistant Head Coach for 4 seasons. While there he helped swimmers achieve Lower Mainland Region, BC Provincial and Canadian National time standards. He then moved out east to Collingwood, ON to become the Head Coach of the Collingwood Clippers Swim Club for 5 seasons. While coaching with CCSC he created consistent programming that enabled the club to grow substantially. The swimmers were able to reach new heights breaking many club records and achieving Huronia Regional, Ontario Provincial and Canadian National time standards. Shane has an optimistic and structured approach to coaching and strongly believes in developing technique for long term success. He believes that constructive feedback and positive reinforcement is key for developing swimmers. Currently, Shane is NCCP Level 2 certified and NCCP Level 3 trained. He is very excited to step into the Head Age Group Coach role.
